Sport and Exercise Medicine Physician & Administrator
Dr Julia provides professional care to athletes. She currently the MSK Lead for Outpatients at Toronto Rehab, and formerly Medical Director of Sport C.A.R.E. at Women’s College Hospital. Her educational background includes:
- Family Medicine Residency (Family Medicine), McMaster University, Ontario in 1989,
- Medical Doctor, MD, McMaster University, Ontario in 1987,
- Diploma of Physiotherapist from McMaster University, Ontario in 1983,
- BHSc of Physiotherapist from Mohawk College, Ontario in 1980.
Dr. Julia Alleyne, as Sport and Exercises Medicine Administrator, is a past president of the Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine (2003-2004) and member of the 2002, 2006, 2008, and 2012 Canadian Olympic Medical Teams. She was Chief Medical Officer for the Canadian Olympic team in London (2012) and is Chief Medical Officer for the Pan Am and Parapan Am Games in Toronto in 2015.
Dr. Alleyne has chaired many scientific programs and courses, including the CASM Annual Symposium, Team Physician courses and the Diploma in Sport Medicine preparation course.
Thought Leader
Dr Julia is a recognized thought leader in the sport and exercise medicine area. For over a decade she has represented Women’s College Hospital as Member of Female Athlete Triad Coalition, she has also played various membership roles, including Chair of Education Commission at the International Federation of Sports Medicine. Dr Julia is a fellow in the American College of Sport Medicine (ACSM) and Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise Reviewer (ACSM). She has held various Board and Committee positions, including President and Chair for the Canadian Academy of Sport and Exercise Medicine 2003-2004.
Dr Julia is also a qualified course leader and curriculum designer and has completed the 5 Weekend Family Practice Leadership Certificate program from the University of Toronto, DFCM (2005) and a M.Sc. (CH) Health Professions Teachers Education from University of Toronto (2009).
